Gulf Coast Equality is proud to present an annual event in October that celebrates and commemorates the LGBTQ+ community. This event is a great opportunity to learn about different cultures from around the world and to appreciate the art and diversity of cinema. The Gulfport School District recently organized an educational fun day for students to celebrate diversity. Central Elementary School students were given a “passport” to explore different cultures from various countries at different tagged stations at school.
The three-day film festival is a great way to watch movies from around the country and around the world that highlight a variety of topics and interests. Feature films, short films, documentaries, and even experimental projects are all part of this film and video competition aimed at both experienced and amateur filmmakers. There are also workshops and question-and-answer sessions with festival participants. For the benefit of the Gulfport Public Library's award-winning LGBTQ Resource Center, festivities to honor Gulfport's pride begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m., although the party will continue throughout the night in restaurants, shops and bars in the area.
The festival also includes a boat race with teams comprised of employees from companies and nonprofit organizations racing in 46-foot-long boats to the finish line in several playoffs. All proceeds from the festival go directly to United Way of South Mississippi, which seeks to improve the health, education and financial stability of all people in Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River and Stone Counties. Downtown Gulfport will be filled with color and joy this Saturday, June 3rd, when the city celebrates its third annual Pride Month. The streets will be closed off all day long to celebrate everyone's diversity. The event is an excellent opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together and celebrate diversity and inclusion. It is also a great way for people to learn more about different cultures from around the world.
